Noora Geagea, Heta Kuchka and Miia Rinne at Moving Image London

Finnish media art is presented at Moving Image art fair in London. Finnish artists displayed are Noora Geagea (b. 1981) Heta Kuchka (b. 1974) and Miia Rinne (b. 1973).

Geagea’s video installation Match me (2012) examines change, the balance between old and new. Kuchka’s piece A Portrait of A Young Man (2010) shows a hundred young men sitting in the sauna squeezed in next to each other, forming a surface of bare skin. The viewer will see the individual as the men start reacting to the steam and heat, leaving the frame one by one. Kuchka’s works will also be featured in the #FocusFinland Pavilion at the ARCOmadrid art fair in February 2014.

Miia Rinne’s Sea (2013) has been hand painted on a film strip. The dark scenes resembling a sea view at night are created from repeatedly painting new layers of paint on top of older ones. The work creates hidden images and resembles the onion like structure of memory. Rinne’s works have been in many exhibitions and festivals worldwide, including Helsinki Art Museum; Nordic Outbreak, Scandinavia House, New York; Leiden International Short Film Experience, The Netherlands and Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Germany.

Moving Image is a biannual contemporary video art fair. It features a selection of international commercial galleries and non-profit institutions. In March 2014 art fair takes place in New York where it is organized in collaboration with The Armory Show.

Heta Kuchka and Miia Rinne is presented by AV-arkki, the Distribution Centre for Finnish Media Art in collaboration with Frame Visual Art Finland. Noora Geagea is presented by Galleria Huuto.

Moving Image is organized in London 17–20 October 2013.
