Frame and the Finnish Cultural Foundation organise joint study trips for Finland-based contemporary art professionals. In November 2026, the study trip is organised to the 16th Dak’Art – Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art in Senegal and Marrakech, Morocco.
The following participants were selected for the study trip through an open call: Pii Anttila, Art Producer at Seinäjoki Art Hall; Emma Beverley, Director of HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme; Chih-Tung Lin, Freelance curator; Ingrid Orman, Chief Curator at EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art; and Terhi Tuomi, Head of Exhibitions at Aboa Vetus Ars Nova. A total of 43 applications were submitted.
Additionally, professionals in the field of contemporary art have the opportunity to join the group if they cover their own travel expenses or have them covered by their organisation.
The Dakar Biennale, initiated in 1990, is Africa’s longest-running large-scale art event. The trip enables participants to explore the biennial and build networks with international contemporary art practitioners. The study trips aim to familiarise participants with the art scene in the destination countries, visit international contemporary art events, build networks, and identify potential partners.
Applications were evaluated by Johanna Ruohonen, Development Director at the Finnish Cultural Foundation; Arvid van der Rijt, Senior Advisor for International Networks at Frame; and artist Sasha Huber. In making the selections, particular emphasis was placed on the benefits the study trip would bring to the participant’s work or to the activities of the organisation they represent.
