Turku Art Museum presents a major exhibition of IC-98

This autumn Turku Art Museum presents an exhibition by Turku-based artist group IC-98. Established in 1998, the group’s original name was Iconoclast, an allusion to the destruction of images and antagonism towards prevailing values. The group’s members are Visa Suonpää (b. 1968) and Patrik Söderlund (b. 1974).

One of the topmost names in contemporary Finnish art, IC-98 has garnered both national and international acclaim with context-specific works that are based on critical thinking and extensive background research.

IC-98 notes that they are interested in events, which did not take place, fantastic connections between things, heresies and pure systems of thought, the presence of history in everyday life, the body politic, social formations and architectural constructions, control mechanism and techniques of escaping them.

The group was awarded the Finnish State Prize for Visual Arts in 2009, and the same year they also won the first prize at the Turku Biennial.

In addition to the exhibitions in Finland, the works of IC-98 have been shown e.g. in New York, Buenos Aires and London. IC-98 will also be presented at ARCOmadrid 2014 by Galleria Heino.
