More about the works:

Seven Recipients

Seven Recipients by Laura Soisalon-Soininen is the second work in a series of artistic commissions for Frame Contemporary Art Finland’s office space. An installation composed of seven distinct artworks which inhabit the office foyer, the work is an ode to various transitions and seasons that take place in life. Each element has been gathered, measured, arranged, re-arranged and crocheted together while walking in the lakes and shores of Helsinki city and the Uusimaa region.

Seven Recipients is commissioned in the context of Rehearsing Hospitalities, Frame’s public programme for 2019−2023.

Field Circulation

The work Field Circulation consists of a long-lasting performative walk and its traces in ”Kulmala fields”, a branch of the regenerative farm Kilpiä in Tölli village.

“I pace around the field. At each cycle, I move a wooden branch nearly two feet long (56 cm) towards the middle of the patch of land. The shape of the field is quadrilateral with four corners and four sides, close to a kite. I circuit the field until the steps of the circumference converge the least until the steps embed the smallest of an area, or until the measure crosses the line of the adjoining angles.”
 – Laura Soisalon-Soininen

Trophic Verses is an artistic exploration into the life and phenomena in and around Earth’s body of soil. Commenced in the summer of 2018, the project spans a period of nearly four years. Each year the project manifests in different kinds of artistic and curatorial practices, and launches new collaborations with other art, research and environmental initiatives.

About the artist:

Laura Soisalon-Soininen works mainly with walking, weaving, sewing, and crafting. Her work is time-consuming and the process of the work often consists of long-lasting walking performances, in which the artist perceives spaces through embodied measurements. Soisalon-Soininen is also interested in the spirituality that is materialised through repetitive actions. Her work has been exhibited at the Exhibition Laboratory in Helsinki, Artifex Textiles Galerija in Vilnius, Treignac Projet in Treignac, France and the Rehearsing Hospitalities Programme by Frame Contemporary Art Finland in Helsinki.
