We stand with Ukraine

Frame Contemporary Art Finland wants to express support and solidarity for Ukraine and Ukrainians in this devastating time. We condemn the Russian government’s invasion of the sovereign territory of Ukraine.

We are currently looking for ways to support Ukraine and Ukrainian people, especially artists and other arts professionals. We encourage everyone to contribute any way they can, whether it’s demonstrating, donating, sharing information or providing other kinds of support.

For the time being, Frame suspends all programmes that include organizations or individuals based in Russia, such as the Finland-Russia Curatorial Programme, where we have collaborated with the Russian state-affiliated Pushkin museum NCCA. Frame’s grants to Russian actors are also suspended and won’t be awarded until Russia has withdrawn from Ukraine. These decisions are made with a heavy heart, since we acknowledge that the individuals are not responsible for the horrific acts of the Russian regime.

As the commissioner of the Pavilion of Finland in the Venice Biennale we are in close contact with our peers in other countries and look for ways to support our colleagues at the Ukrainian pavilion. We support the artists’ and curator’s decision to resign from the Russian pavilion and have signed a petition for La Biennale di Venezia to ban the Russian pavilion altogether from the Biennale, due to its ties to the Russian regime.

Further action and information will be updated via our channels.

In the meantime, we wish strength, peace and hope for Ukraine and send our heartfelt thoughts to all Ukrainians.
