We are now looking for peer reviewers to evaluate grant applications for the 2026–2027 term. The call for applications is open until December 5, 2025.
Are you interested in the international activities of Finnish contemporary art? Do you have experience with exhibitions abroad and a good knowledge of contemporary art? You may be an artist, curator, researcher, museum professional, or otherwise working in the field of contemporary art.
We are now looking for peer reviewers for the 2026–2027 term. The reviewers’ task is to assess applications submitted to Frame by artists, art experts, and art organisations for international activities and presentations of Finnish contemporary art.
We are looking for six peer reviewers with diverse expertise in different disciplines of contemporary art. The names of the peer reviewers are public.
The Frame Board appoints the peer reviewers. The Board may also invite experts from outside this call to serve as reviewers.
Compensation and time spent on the task
Frame’s grants will be partially renewed in 2026. There will be three rounds of Frame grant applications: 1–31 March, 1–31 May, and 1–30 October, 2026.
Each round will have 1–3 application types for assessment. One evaluator’s annual evaluation work will include 1 application type in 2–3 application rounds. Each evaluation will be carried out by two people.
The assessment work will be done within two weeks after the end of each application round: at the beginning of April, June, and November. In addition, the evaluation meetings last approximately 3 hours and are held 2–3 times a year.
The compensation for the work is €5 per application. A maximum of 120 applications per evaluator will be assessed in one round. The minimum compensation for evaluating one application round is €250. With 2–3 application rounds, the overall compensation annually will be between €500–1800 per reviewer, depending on the number of applications.
Travel expenses for orientation and meetings will be reimbursed from within Finland. Remote participation is possible if necessary.
The term for peer reviewers is two years: from 1 April 2026 to 31 December 2027. Evaluators will be given an orientation for the task.
Requirements for working as a peer reviewer
1. Language skills and technical skills
The task requires good reading skills in Finnish and English. Grant applicants have the right to apply for grants covered by state subsidies in the official languages of Finland (Finnish and Swedish) and in English. The task requires the ability to conduct meeting discussions in English when necessary.
The evaluation is carried out online in the Frame grant system.
2. Evaluation of artistic work, the collaborating/exhibiting party, and project funding
The task of peer reviewers requires a strong knowledge and experience in the field of contemporary art and its various disciplines, actors, and international exhibition activities.
The criteria for funding decisions are the quality of the artistic activity, the scope of the project, the significance of the partners, the importance of the project or the presentation for the artist’s international career, and the financial and production feasibility of the project.
Evaluators are therefore required to be able to assess these criteria. All applications are evaluated equally. The evaluation also takes into account regional balance and diverse disciplines of contemporary art.
3. Time and confidentiality
Peer reviewers are required to complete their evaluations within specified time frames after the application deadline and to commit to confidentiality and equal treatment of all applicants.
Disqualification and impartiality
Frame peer reviewers are disqualified from receiving grants from Frame during their term. Furthermore, no project in which a reviewer is involved is eligible for a grant from Frame. Reviewers are always disqualified from making decisions regarding applicants who belong to their immediate circle.
