Talk: Bienal de São Paulo’s Jacopo Crivelli Visconti

Curator of the Bienal de São Paulo 2020 Jacopo Crivelli Visconti will visit Finland in August under Frame’s expert visitor programme.

In the discussion to be held at the Helsinki Art Museum HAM on Wednesday 28 August at 5–7pm, Visconti will speak about his curatorial process and plans for upcoming Bienal de São Paulo.

The 34th Bienal de São Paulo promises to bring together the city’s cultural institutions.

“We propose to resume the show’s experimental character in regard to the curatorial premises that govern it”, Visconti says. “Brazilian art scene currently needs to be rethought in light of the growth of local institutions, and in this edition, the Bienal will seek to dialogue and form relationships in an entirely new way.”

The Bienal de São Paulo was initiated in 1951 being the world’s second oldest art biennial. Since 1957, the Bienal de São Paulo has been held in the Ciccillo Matarazzo pavilion in the Parque do Ibirapuera. The biennial features both Brazilian and international artists, and the exhibitions are held under the direction of rotating chief curators.

The discussion is moderated by Anna-Kaisa Rastenberger, Professor of Exhibition Studies and Spatiality at the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of the Arts Helsinki.

The event is organised by Frame Contemporary Art Finland in collaboration with HAM and it is open for everyone to participate.
