Rehearsing Hospitalities is our public programme for 2019–2023. It connects artists, curators and other practitioners in the field of contemporary art and beyond to build up and mediate new practices, understandings and engagements with diverse hospitalities.
In 2020, we will continue to ask how art and institutions can be hospitable towards different ways of situated knowing. We will also look into the accessibility of knowledges and communities in different areas of Helsinki. Who has the cultural and social entitlement to hegemonic forms of knowing? How can art and curating bring forward ecologies of knowledge and accessibility rather than reduce hospitality to assimilative processes of inclusion?
Upcoming events in spring
This spring, Rehearsing Hospitalities will continue with a series of events in Berlin and in Helsinki.
In March, the publication Rehearsing Hospitalities Companion 1 will have its Berlin launch in an event organised with publisher Archive Books and art space District Berlin.
In April, artist Vidha Saumya will host Reading List Leaders, a weekly gathering for reading and listening. Hour-long sessions will be held in several Indian languages.
Reading List Leaders expands the Reading List, a mural painted on a wall in Frame’s office. It proposes a list of 96 authors from India who should be included on global reading lists.
At the end of April, a one-day event in Helsinki will bring together artists, curators and organisations for three different sessions that challenge the understanding and practices of access. The event will emphasise plurality of access through material artistic contributions, performative acts, discussion, video screenings and accessible ways of practicing event production. Artists taking part will include Jessie Bullivant, Jemina Lindholm and Jenni-Juulia Wallinheimo-Heimonen.
All of the talks are open to the public and in English unless specified otherwise. Precise times are yet to be confirmed: please check our website for further information. Everyone is welcome to join us!
