Grants for organisations

Frame grants project grants for contemporary art organisations to international exhibitions, art fairs and art publications featuring Finnish and Finland-based artists. In addition, Finnish contemporary art organisations can apply for travel grants in order to invite an international art professional to Finland.

Project grants

  • The application periods for 2025 project grants are from 1 to 30 November 2024 and from 1 to 31 March 2025.
  • The deadline is the last day of the application period at 11:59 pm Finnish time.
  • The results of the November application period are usually published by the end of February, depending on the Ministry of Education and Culture’s state subsidy decision.
  • The decisions on the March application period are announced approximately eight weeks after the deadline.

Travel grants for inviting international art professionals to Finland

  • Applications for travel grants for trips taking place in 2025 can be submitted continuously from 1 November 2024 until 31 August 2025.
  • Decisions are made four times a year.
  • The application deadlines for trips taking place in 2025 are:
    • 31 December 2024
    • 28 February 2025
    • 30 April 2025
    • 31 August 2025
  • Decisions are announced approximately four weeks after each application deadline. The first decisions at the beginning of the calendar year are usually published by the end of February, depending on the Ministry of Education and Culture’s state subsidy decision.

The purpose of the grant is to strengthen the international position of Finnish contemporary art by supporting the presentation of Finnish art abroad. The purpose of grants awarded by Frame is based on the strategy of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and Frame’s own strategy.

Who can apply?

  • Finnish or foreign organisations that present Finnish art, such as biennales, art museums, galleries and cultural institutions.
  • Artists or work groups are not eligible to apply for this project grant. They are advised instead to apply for a travel grant for artists for exhibiting abroad.

For what purpose can this project grant be applied for?

  • Project grants can be awarded for exhibitions held abroad when one or more Finnish artists or artists based in Finland participate in the exhibition. Exhibition activities include, inter alia, appearances by the artist or presentation of their work in a solo or group exhibition, biennale, triennale, festival or other contemporary art event.

Project grants can only be applied for to cover the following expenses of Finnish or Finland-based artists:

  • installation expenses
  • travel and accommodation expenses
  • transport and insurance of artworks

Project grants cannot be spent on:

  • artistic work
  • residencies (including travel to and from)
  • gallery rental or participation fees
  • per diems or living costs
  • artist / curator fees
  • studies, theses
  • production and material costs of artworks
  • general equipment or software purchases
  • the expenses of foreign artists not based in Finland
  • events or exhibitions in Finland

The purpose of the grant is to promote the international career development of Finnish artists. The purpose of grants awarded by Frame is based on the strategy of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and Frame’s own strategy.

Who can apply?

  • Finnish or foreign publishers
  • Finnish or foreign contemporary art organisations
  • This project grant can also be applied by Finnish artists or artists based in Finland.

For what purpose can this project grant be applied for?

  • The project grant may be applied for foreign-language publications with international distribution that present the work of Finnish artists or artists based in Finland, or Finnish art in general.

This project grant can only be applied for to cover the following expenses:

  • printing expenses
  • writer fees
  • translation fees
  • graphic design fees

Project grants cannot be spent on:

  • per diems, living costs
  • studies, theses

When to apply?

  • 3–5 images per participating Finnish artist

  • Finnish galleries
  • Finnish artist-run organisations such as associations and cooperatives
  • Artists or work groups are not eligible for project grants to attend art fairs. They are advised instead to apply for a travel grant for artists for exhibiting abroad.

For what purpose can this project grant be applied for?

  • The grant can be awarded for the presentation at art fairs abroad of work by Finnish artists or artists based in Finland.
  • This project grant can be only applied for to cover the following expenses:
    • booth rental or participation fee
    • travel and accommodation expenses
    • transport and insurance of artworks

Project grants cannot be spent on:

  • per diems, living costs or fees

The purpose of the travel grant is to promote the international mobility and networking of art professionals in order to promote the opportunities of Finnish art and artists for international interaction and the exhibition of Finnish art internationally. The purpose of grants awarded by Frame is based on the strategy of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and Frame’s own strategy.

Who can apply?

  • Finland-based organisations in order to invite an international art professionals to Finland.
  • Organisations based outside of Finland are not eligible to apply for a travel grant. International art professionals are advised to apply for a personal travel grant instead. For what purposes can a travel grant be applied for?

  • Finland-based organisations can apply order to invite an international art professionals to Finland. International contemporary art experts can apply for a personal travel grants for work-related trips to Finland.

Travel grants can only be applied for to cover the travelling professional’s personal

  • travel expenses
  • accommodation expenses

Travel grants cannot be spent on

  • residencies (including travel to and from)
  • per diems or living costs
  • participation fees
  • studies, theses

When to apply

  • Applications for travel grants for trips taking place in 2025 can be submitted continuously from 1 November 2024 until 31 August 2025.
  • Decisions are made four times a year.
  • The application deadlines for trips taking place in 2025 are:
    • 31 December 2024
    • 28 February 2025
    • 30 April 2025
    • 31 August 2025
