Chart highlights Nordic art in Copenhagen

Representing 33  contemporary art galleries from the Nordic region, the Chart Art Fair returns for its 5th edition from 1–3 September in Copenhagen, Denmark. Don’t miss our picks from the varied, growing programme.

Pilvi Takala’s video installation Drive With Care (2013) forms part of the Chart Social programme and is permanently installed in the Kunsthal Charlottenborg’s courtyard for the duration of the art fair. In the video, Takala’s video looks at the life of a teacher at an elite boarding school in the US, exploring the faculty members’ strategies for survival as they negotiate their own space within the institution.

The Chart Art Fair Film presents Tuomas A. Laitinen’s The Powder of Sympathy (2015) in the new, specially designed cinema in Kunsthal Charlottenborg. The film programme will continue after the fair as part of Kunsthal Charlottenborg’s programme.

Chart Emerging features Artor Jesus Inkerö’s large scale photographs Justin, Kim and Caitlyn. In the photos the artist undertakes an extreme lifestyle shift in order to produce images of three infamous public figures from Inkerö’s own body.

In addition, Helsinki-based Galerie Anhava presents Saakakar, a solo show by Vesa-Pekka Rannikko. Helsinki Contemporary will show recent and new series of drawings alongside photographs by Ville Andersson created especially for the fair. Toni R. Toivonen’s golden-hued brass plates at the Galerie Forsblom booth are embellished with the vaguely discernible imprints of raccoon dogs, horses and cattle.
