This June, Frame is co-organising three events in The Netherlands. Islands of Kinship programme culminates with a seminar and a book launch in The Hague. Frame Curatorial Research Fellow Soph Boobyer participates in the opening weekend of Van Abbemuseum’s exhibition Soils in Eindhoven. De Appel in Amsterdam hosts a launch event for Falling In, Frame’s new publication on curatorial research.
Islands of Kinship: Symposium and book launch
On Friday, 14 June 2024 the Islands of Kinship network is organizing a symposium Language Matters: Accessible and Inclusive Communication in Art Spaces at Stroom Den Haag, The Hague. The event focuses on accessibility in art institutions, especially on the role of language and communication.
The full-day event programme brings together professionals with various specializations, including workshops by Isa Hukka and Paulina Seyfried and artist talks and screenings by Alžběta Bačíková and Sarah van Lamsweerde.
The event concludes from 6–7 pm with the launch of the publication Islands of Kinship: A Collective Manual for Sustainable and Inclusive Art Institutions, the outcome of a project interconnecting six visual art institutions across Europe.

Frame Curatorial Research Fellow Soph Boobyer at Van Abbemuseum
Frame Curatorial Research Fellow Soph Boobyer is participating in a panel discussion at Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven as part of the opening weekend of the museum’s new exhibition Soils.
The festive programme on 15–16 June includes talks, panels, performances and guided tours. Boobyer’s talk takes place on Sunday, 16 June at 11.30 am.
For the Frame Curatorial Research Fellowship with Van Abbemuseum, Soph Boobyer’s research investigates soil’s role in the art museum canon, focusing on its performativities as both preservationist and conservationist. The outcome of the research will manifest as part of the public programming for The Soils project at Van Abbemuseum.
Book launch of Falling In publication at de Appel
De Appel arts centre is hosting a conversation on curatorial research around Frame’s new publication Falling In: Movement and Becoming in Curatorial Research, published in February 2024 by Frame and Mousse Publishing. The discussion is joined by the book’s editors Jussi Koitela and Dahlia El Broul, and contributors Sonia D’Alto and TOK (Creative Association of Curators, Anna Bitkina and Maria Veits).
The event takes place on Monday, 17 June from 6–7.30 pm at de Appel, Tolstraat 160, Amsterdam. The event is organised in collaboration with Frame and The Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux.
