The former Minister of Housing and Communications Pia Viitanen has been designated to handle cultural affairs following changes in the Finnish Government last week. Paavo Arhinmäki, the former Minister of Culture, was released from his duties when his party, the Left Alliance, left the Government over a budgetary disagreement.
Viitanen (b. 1967) now covers both housing and culture, and uses the title of Minister of Culture and Housing. Viitanen has served as a Member of Parliament (Social Democratic Party of Finland) since 1995.
