The new Children’s Hospital in Helsinki will receive over a million euros for artworks to be displayed in the hospital. Altogether there will be 14 art pieces or installations by 17 artists or artist groups. The main funding is provided by two private foundations, Svenska Kulturfonden and Stiftelsen Brita Maria Renlunds minne. Also Finnish Art Society as well as several private donors have donated funds for the hospital to be invested in artworks.

The hospital, which will treat children from across Finland, is currently under construction and will open in 2017. The new hospital will also be the primary paediatric teaching hospital nationwide providing medical training and programmes for specialised fields. All the artworks will be site-specific and created for the needs of the hospital’s users; the children, their parents and the hospital staff. The artworks have been selected by a committee of art professionals, artists and curators.
