In February the Morning Coffee Club will be looking at artist Essi Kausalainen’s artwork Newcomers which was shown at SIC gallery, Helsinki in Autumn 2016.
Morning Coffee Club takes place at the Frame office (Ratakatu 1 b A 9, 6th floor) on Tuesday 28th February 2017 at 10am. Kausalainen will be discussing the artwork with curator Jenni Nurmenniemi. The conversation will be held in Finnish, with a possibility for translation.
Kausalainen (b. 1979) has studied performance art and – theory in Turku Arts Academy and the Theatre Academy of Finland. In her works, ceremonial situations and gestures often bring forth interaction between places, humans, organisms and things.
Kausalainen was working on Newcomers during her residency at Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge in 2015 while the theme of the residency was multiverse. Newcomers consists of a video, love song, text piece and performance, and it investigates themes inspired by symbiosis: being inside another, opening up and surrendering, trust and love.
Morning Coffee Club is a series of discussions organised together by Frame and HIAP. Each discussion focuses on one work of art from an artist working in Finland and internationally. The invited artist presents the work and discusses it together with a guest commentator and the audience, considering its form, content and process from different angles.
