Curator Jussi Koitela has been selected as the new Head of Programme for Frame Contemporary Art Finland starting from August 15th. The Head of Programme is in charge of managing Frame’s programme, e.g. international visitor and residency programmes and publications.
Koitela has studied artistic practices at Degree Programme in Fine Art in Tampere University of Applied Sciences and curatorial practices at Praxis MA program in Academy of Fine Arts – University of Arts Helsinki. From 2015 to 2016 Koitela was a participant of De Appel Curatorial Programme in Amsterdam. In his freelance curatorial work, Koitela has been developing curatorial, institutional, and discursive practices that merge different areas of artistic work, critical thought and political discourse.
“I am looking forward to the position of Head of Programme, as a possibility to develop forms of international exchange that go beyond moving art and artists over nation-state borders, but rather foster possibilities to produce broader common, and diverging, cultural understandings and values. Frame’s programming can engender significant opportunities for artists in the world where local communities, nation-states, global economic connections, and shifting epistemological and material relations, shape contemporary life”, says Koitela.
Frame’s current Head of Programme Taru Elfving will leave at the beginning of June 2018, where she will continue her independent curatorial research.
