Frame Contemporary Art Finland and the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma are launching an internship programme for exhibitions at the Finnish Pavilion hosted by Frame and the Nordic Pavilion hosted by Kiasma at the 58th Venice Art Biennale in 2019.

The programme is aimed at art students studying in Finnish universities and universities of applied sciences. The internship is primarily for students of curating and arts management, art education, art history and fine arts interested in gaining on-site experience in the daily operations of an international art biennial in Venice.
Internship
The internship programme offers the applicant a unique opportunity to work at the oldest contemporary art biennial in the world and gain valuable knowledge on how biennial exhibitions are run. In addition to the relevant international work experience, the chosen applicant will get the opportunity to explore over 80 national pavilions with individual exhibitions, giving the applicant an overview of the most current contemporary art of today.
The duration of the internship is 6 to 8 weeks, taking place during the Venice Biennale from May to November 2019. Before the internship starts, all interns will be invited to an onboarding session in the organising institutions in Helsinki to introduce them to the tasks, the exhibitions and the city of Venice.
The applicants are expected to apply for funding from their respective universities. Frame and Kiasma offer accommodation in a shared apartment, a monthly allowance (450 euro), compensation for public transport, and access to the biennale exhibitions and local museums.
Tasks
The intern runs daily operations of the Finnish Pavilion and the Nordic Pavilion, both located at the historical biennial park, Giardini di Castello. The intern prepares the pavilion prior to opening, hosts exhibition guests and gives scheduled guided tours, guards the exhibition and is in charge of the over-all daily management of the pavilion. The pavilion is open to the public six days a week, Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6pm. The intern will work approximately four days a week.
The applicant
The applicant is expected to have good knowledge of the Finnish contemporary art field and the capability to work in an international environment and engage with audiences on a daily basis. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
