As a result of the recent funding cut, there will be changes to the application and assessment schedules of Frame grants for the rest of the year.
The application period for artists’ travel grants will close on 31 August 2025, two months earlier than previously announced. Decisions will be made four times this year, compared to every two months in the past. In addition, the amount available for grants will be significantly lower than in the past.
Frame grants support international exhibitions and other projects of Finnish contemporary art abroad. This year, the amount of funds allocated by the Ministry of Education and Culture for grants decreased by 36 %, from €260 000 to €167 000. Read more about the funding cut.
Upcoming deadlines for travel grant applications are 30 April and 31 August 2025
The call for applications for this year’s travel grants will be open from 1 November 2024 to 31 August 2025. Applications for travel grants for exhibiting abroad in 2025 must therefore be submitted by the end of August. The last travel grant assessments for the year will be made in September.
In addition, the travel grant application deadline of 15 June 2025 will be cancelled. Therefore, all travel grant applications submitted between 1 May and 31 August will be assessed in one batch. Decisions will be published approximately four weeks after the deadline.
The currently ongoing travel grant call from 1 March to 30 April and the March project grant call, which closed on 31 March, will be assessed according to the previously announced schedule. Decisions will be announced at the end of May. However, the total amount available for these calls will already be significantly reduced. The amount allocated for the project call will be less than half and the amount allocated for the travel call will be approximately half of the previous amount.
The reduction of funds impacts especially the grant rounds at the end of the year since the Ministry of Education and Culture’s funding decisions were delivered in mid-March. By then, three of Frame’s annual calls had already closed.
