Frame is pleased to welcome a wide array of international contemporary art professionals to Finland.
On the 10th of April, curators Annie Fletcher and Vivian Ziherl will discuss Karrabing Film Collective’s new work in an event organised with Publics. On the 11th of April, Marie Nipper will hold a lecture on arranging large-scale public art projects at Helsinki Art Museum HAM.
On the 18th of April, curator Natasha Ginwala will discuss her curatorial strategies and new projects at HAM, and on the 19th of April artist Maija Luutonen and curator Andrew Berardini will discuss Maija’s new exhibition opening at Studio K in Kiasma. Karrabing Film Collective, Elizabeth A. Povinelli, Annie Fletcher & Vivian Ziherl in conversation
In April 2018 PUBLICS presents a new multi-screen work, Mermaids, Mirror Worlds, by the Karrabing Film Collective – a group of indigenous artists from Australia’s Top End.
PUBLICS hosts a screening of three short films by the collective as well as a talk by anthropologist, activist, and gender studies professor Elizabeth A. Povinelli with four other members of the Karrabing Film Collective (Gavin Bienamu, Aiden Sing, Rex Sing, Shannan Sing), and curators Annie Fletcher and Vivian Ziherl.

Marie Nipper: Triennials and biennials, case ARoS
The Director of Copenhagen Contemporary, previously a Senior Curator at Tate Liverpool and a Chief Curator at ARoS Art Museum, Marie Nipper will hold a lecture concerning the upcoming Helsinki Biennale using ARoS as a case study.

Curating in Context: Natasha Ginwala
Curator and writer Natasha Ginwala will address two recent projects in her lecture as a part of Frame’s Curating in Context public lecture and discussion series.
Projects include Polyphonic Worlds: Justice as Medium, Contour Biennale 8 (2017), which investigates questions of legal representation, testimonial production and staging trials beyond the limits of the court of law through artistic processes. And Riots: Slow Cancellation of the Future (2018) that remains concerned with the intersection between art, the politics of disorder, racial violence and phenomenology of the multitude.

In conversation: Maija Luutonen & Andrew Berardini
The conversation with curator, poet and editor Andrew Berardini and artist Maija Luutonen takes as a point of departure her exhibition of new work at Studio K, the first Kiasma Commission by Kordelin.
Working mainly with painting on paper, Maija Luutonen’s practice often concerns spatial immersion, our relation to the built environment, and nature at every scale. Considering the surface as something transient, Luutonen addresses the relationship between time and movement; treating the works as moving images—only that they shift too slowly for the human eye or lifetime to perceive. The subject of paper itself is essential to her work, entering the space as a background and secret scroll.
