Frame Contemporary Art Finland is partnering with the Helsinki Biennial in 2025. The collaboration aims to strengthen the international recognition and networks of the Finnish contemporary art scene.
Ahead of its opening in June 2025, Helsinki Biennial hosts a professional preview in cooperation with Frame and local arts organisations. The Helsinki Biennial Preview Programme takes place on 6–8 June. Frame invites a group of international curators and museum professionals to join the opening week. In addition to the Helsinki Biennial, they get to know local artists, exhibitions, and the Helsinki visual arts scene.
“HAM Helsinki Art Museum and the City of Helsinki aim to make the Helsinki Biennial one of the most renowned international biennials. We want to create a long-term phenomenon that will promote the entire Finnish art scene,” says Arja Miller, Director of HAM and Helsinki Biennial.
The Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation has awarded HAM Helsinki Art Museum a grant of 900,000 euros for 2025–2027. The support is aimed at Helsinki Biennial’s international operations, focusing on building networks and promoting the international visibility of the Finnish visual arts scene.
Every year, 20–30 international contemporary art professionals visit Finland as part of Frame’s Visitor Programme. Frame hosted a group of curators also at the 2023 Helsinki Biennial opening week.
“The Helsinki Biennial is a great opportunity to show how rich the Finnish contemporary art scene is. The collaboration with Biennial links directly to our mission to facilitate encounters between art professionals,” says Frame’s CEO Juha Huuskonen.
Helsinki Biennial brings together 35 artists and artist groups to Helsinki’s Vallisaari, Esplanade Park, and HAM Helsinki Art Museum on 8 June–21 September 2025. The third edition, titled Shelter, is curated by Kati Kivinen and Blanca de la Torre.
