The candidates for the Ars Fennica art award 2015 have been announced. The nominated artists for the biggest art prize in Finland are Laura Könönen, Outi Pieski, Hans Rosenström, Mika Taanila and artist duo Pink Twins (Vesa Vehviläinen and Juha Vehviläinen).
The candidates have been selected by the Award Panel: chair Leena Niemistö, MD, members sculptor Markus Kåhre, painter Elina Merenmies and Museum Director Pirkko Siitari.
The award includes a monetary prize of 40 000 euro, an e-catalogue of works by the winner and an exhibition at Hämeenlinna Art Museum in autumn 2015.
The award is granted by the Henna and Pertti Niemistö Ars Fennica Art Foundation. In 2015 the Ars Fennica is being awarded for the 22nd time. The purpose of the award is to open up new international contacts for the Finnish art world, to encourage artists in their creative work, and to promote interest in contemporary art among the general public.
In 2015 award winner will be chosen by curator and writer Charles Esche. He will visit the candidates’ studios in early 2015, and will select the winner on the basis of these meetings with the artists. The award winner will be announced in spring 2015.
