Meet Belén Santillán at Frame office on 16 April

Frame welcomes you to meet artist and educator Belén Santillán on Wednesday, 16 April, from 5 to 7 pm at our office in Töölö (Töölönkatu 11 A, Helsinki). Belén is visiting Helsinki as part of Frame’s Visitor Programme and will be exploring especially artist-run spaces.

For the event at Frame, Belén Santillán will discuss her practice and current projects of Oslo-based artist-run collective Tenthaus. The presentation is followed by an informal gathering over refreshments. The event is open for all to participate.

Belén Santillán is an Ecuadorian artist and educator based in Oslo. She is a member of the artist collective Tenthaus, engaging in collaborative and process-based curatorial projects.

Belén’s practice explores the intersections of art and critical pedagogies, focusing on how institutional models can be reimagined to foster access to creative expression. Her recent project, El Micromuseo de Plantas Migrantes (2024–2025), examines migration and language as sites of resistance. It reflects on the displacement of both people and knowledge systems, through performative lectures, installations, and low-fi films.

Through her involvement with Tenthaus, Belén explores models of art practice and education that prioritize community engagement and collective learning. With Tenthaus, she has developed public programs for Momentum 12 – Nordic Biennial of Contemporary Art, Tegnetriennalen 2023, and Stedsveven (2024–2026), a public art project commissioned by Oslo Kommune Kunstsamling, which explores place-based practices, oral histories, and alternative cartographies.

If you can’t attend in person, you can join the discussion online via Zoom (link below). Participation requires no registration.

Warm welcome!
