Josephine Fity
Independent Curator and Art Historian, Denmark
Josephine Fity is an art historian, independent curator, and artist consultant with more than 20 years of experience in the field of contemporary art. She has worked across major institutions including the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK), Overgaden Institute of Contemporary Art, and V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, where she served as Director for over a decade. Working freelance since 2025, she advises artists and collectors with a focus on
fundraising, writing, and strategic guidance, coordinates exhibitions, and develops curatorial projects in exciting and unexpected spaces outside art institutions in venues such as fx. an abandoned hair dresser salon.
Having contributed to more than 200 exhibitions, fairs, and events, her practice is driven by curiosity and a strong commitment to highlighting the role of art in public discourse.
“My concept is to rethink the art space as a more fluid entity — one that allows for a different approach to commercial exhibitions and collaborations. It’s a model that adapts to the artist’s project or creates a synergy between artworks and spaces, with a stronger emphasis on the curatorial vision. The aim is to offer people both art historical insight and access to unique or everyday environments, while broadening the conversation around art’s potential and voice in society.”
Josephine Fity is invited by the Finnish Institute in Denmark in collaboration with Frame in the context of the Helsinki Biennial 2025. Her visit is made possible thanks to the support of the Finnish Institute in Denmark.
